Winslow High School received continued Accreditation in the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)
The Commission on Public Schools commended our high school on several items including the following highlights:
Significant strides in developing a shared understanding of optimal and effective learning through it's extensive implementation of programs such as Building Thinking Classrooms and OpenSciEd
Increased teacher collaboration in defining and implementing effective instructional practices, both within and across departments
Greater consistency with inquiry-driven methodologies, including Scientific Modeling, Student-Led Discussions, and Story-Lining
Student of the month recognitions which focus on the value of the Vision of the Graduate and reward those who exhibit the qualities of the accomplished thinker and responsible citizen
Extended Learning Opportunities for students to get real-world experience in careers they are interested in after high school
Adding food offerings in the cafeteria to meet the needs of all students
Additional opportunities for student choice in formative and summative assessments
The unified sports program which exemplifies the values of the Vision of the Graduate with regard to being effective collaborators

Our High School One Act Play competed at Yarmouth HS in the Regional Drama Festival. They were the Class B runners-up at the festival and earned several additional awards.

Last year's 7th-grade students went to the Outlet Stream in Vassalboro to investigate macroinvertebrates as part of their ecology unit last spring 2024. This work was in collaboration with the Herring Gut Science Center and their Fresh to Salt program. We're proud to share that Winslow Junior High School is the first school to have its data featured on the website. Please visit the site to view the photos and acknowledge the work of our students.

Asher Stone's acrylic on canvas painting titled Naked Mole Rat with a Pearl Earring was selected for this year's Youth Art Month 2025 poster sponsored by Greene Block + Studios and Ticonic Gallery in Waterville. Asher is a 5th grade student in Kipp Jacques' wonderfull art class. Congratulations Asher and Ms. Jacques!

On November 20th and December 4th seven local colleges, including KVCC, Thomas College, UMA, UMF, Husson College, UMaine, and USM, met with seniors who applied for admission or asked for a meeting.
60 out of 85 eligible seniors participated in this event - that's 70% of the class of 2025! 135 appointments were schduled between the two available dates. Students participated in an average of 2.25 appointments. 5 out of the 7 participating colleges notified students of merit scholarships being awarded to students who choose to attend their institutions. The merit scholarship total for our seniors on November 20th was $1,602,000.
125 acceptances to college were announced!

The Winslow girls soccer team was the recipient of the 2024 Northern Maine Class B Sportsmanship Award.

Mr. Smith's 4th grade class recently made cards in honor of our veterans for their service. Ms. Myers delivered the cards to Togus. In addition to making the cards, many of the students proudly shared pictures of family members who have served our country.

On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, author Rob Buyea paid a virtual visit to Mrs. Foster's gifted and talented classroom, speaking to 23 fourth through sixth graders. In preparation for the visit, the students read several books by Mr. Buyea, including Because of Mr. Terupt, The Perfect Score, and Daredevils.

A group of Winslow High School students attended the Unified Champion School, Special Olympics Maine Inclusion Revolution Youth Summit held at University of Maine. The Inclusion Revolution Youth Summit is designed for students to become “Game Changers” in their School and to learn how Unified Champion Schools can positively change their entire school climate.

Winslow gifted and talented students in grades 4-6 went to Washburn Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine.

WJH Science teachers collaborated with Educate Maine to bring the Maine Mobile Biolab to Winslow Junior High School. Around 90 8th-grade students participated in this exciting hands-on experience.

65 band and chorus students from grades 6-12 auditioned for the Kennebec Valley music festival last week.
Of those 65, 47 were accepted to the festival!
KV Concert will take place in Waterville on Jan. 31/Feb. 1.

On October 26, Winslow's cheering team took second in the game day competition and got the sportsmanship award in the varsity division!
